Naturally this means that those looking for the same sort of experience they had in SteamWorld Dig will be disappointed. Whilst SteamWorld Dig mixed elements of Minecraft and Metroid together to offer a great platforming experience, SteamWorld Heist instead brings a whole new genre to the game with a new focus on tactical battles between Space Scavengers. SteamWorld Heist was originally announced in September 2014 with a scheduled release of spring 2015. The strategy game is also developed from the ground-up on the 3DS, taking advantage of the hardware’s second screen and 3D effects. Image & Form decided to release SteamWorld Heist on the 3DS first because of its strong relationship with Nintendo and the history of SteamWorld Dig’s initial success on the platform. Dig released on the Wii U in 2014 and recently appeared on the Xbox One this June. It also came out for the PlayStation 4 and Vita in March 2014, featuring Trophy support. An HD version launched on PC later in 2013. SteamWorld Dig had a similar launch, with the game building enough momentum to receive ports on other consoles. SteamWorld Heist will release as a high-definition version on other platforms in early 2016 for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox One and iOS devices. SteamWorld Dig cost $8.99 when it launched in August 2013 on the eShop. It will also feature a New Game plus mode. Image & Form explained the game’s higher price, citing SteamWorld Heist is at least 10 times bigger than its predecessor and takes up to 25 hours to complete the campaign. Downloading Heist during its launch window also gives buyers a 3DS home menu theme based on the game. On the eShop SteamWorld Heist will be discounted to $16.99 through Dec. While it’s not a direct sequel, Heist is set in the same universe as SteamWorld Dig and takes place hundreds of years after its events. The game will feature a free-aiming system and randomly generated stages. In SteamWorld Heist players control a group of robots that explore the galaxy, looting spaceships and taking down enemies. Heist is a turn-based strategy game instead of a platformer. It’s an all-new style of gameplay compared to the previous release in the franchise, SteamWorld Dig. The game is from Image & Form, an independent developer and publisher based in Sweden. It will release across the Americas, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. 10 for $19.99, launching first on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.
